Coping skills are techniques or tools that one uses to manage stressful events. Think about how you have overcome stressful times or hardships in your life. Did you reach out to friends? See a therapist? Journal? Go to church? Take walks on the beach? Perhaps some of the ways that you managed these times were helpful and others were not so helpful. Nevertheless, identifying your coping skills help to understand how you manage difficult times and provides you with an opportunity to examine and change coping skills that do not feel helpful. Adopting new and more helpful coping skills that feel foreign may take practice but become easier over time.
