If my relationship isn’t what’s holding me back from feeling satisfied with my life, how do I know what is?

Thank you for asking such a valuable question! Those who allow themselves to grasp the following will feel so much relief, wonderful ease and delicious clarity.

I’m glad you recognized that the relationship is most likely not the “problem,” and isn’t necessarily what is actually keeping you from being satisfied with your life. Sometimes we can spend so much effort, time and energy trying to “fix” the one thing that doesn’t need “fixing” at all. By doing that, we end up feeling exhausted, confused and all ready to give up.

All we actually have to do is address the root of the problem within ourselves by asking:
~ What does this relationship represent for me?
~ What does he/she make me think and feel?
And then hear and listen to our own answers.
Next, follow our GPS’s guidance as to what areas really require our attention (relationship, career, living situation, etc.)

So first, understand intellectually and emotionally what the relationship (in this case) makes you think and feel, and recognize that this is what you have been making your GPS feel, address (apologize) and redirect to what you’d like to make it feel instead, going forward.

I would love to help you get to the root of what is preventing you from feeling the satisfaction you deserve to feel and to help you live a highly satisfying life.

You are so wise to keep an open perspective on things. Asking yourself questions about what you desire in life will help you find what is keeping you from feeling satisfied. It is a good idea to write your answers out and keep them in a safe place. You can reflect on your answers and use the questions daily when making everyday choices that make up your life. Each small choice adds up to create your feeling of satisfaction or lack there of.

When you have some time by yourself you can try the exercise below. Please be completely honest with yourself and do not hold back. When you are describing what your heart desires most know that you deserve and can have it all. Set no limitations on what your ideal life looks like, because those limitations are often keep people feeling like something is missing.

First, answer these questions to help you uncover your deepest desires:

1. If you could live any life you desire, what would your life be like?

2. How would people treat you?

3. Who would you spend your time with?

4. What work would you do?

5. What are the things you dream about or wish for?

Now, if you answer them to the best of your ability you should have a clear guide to follow. If you do not feel satisfied, there are likely things that you desire or want to change. The next step takes a little bit of practice, but when used it is extremely powerful.

Each time you make a choice about something, ask yourself the following:

1. Is making this choice in line with my deepest desires?

2. Am I making this choice because this will help me live my ideal life, or am I settling for less than what I really want?

By asking yourself those questions and answering honestly, you will have a more clear understanding of what a satisfying life would look like for you. Then, you can make choices that will empower you. It may be beneficial for you to talk to someone that can help you discover any unconscious commitments or false beliefs that could be keeping you from being truly satisfied.
