Overcoming Life's Obstacles posted Aug 14, 2017

“Life’s challenges are not supposed to paralyze you, they’re supposed to help you discover who you are.” I love this quote from Bernice Johnson Reagan.  How we deal with life’s challenges, what skills we learn during the process, how we communicate during these times, and how we take care of our selves in the midst of a challenge, all shape us into who we are. This is the stuff we are made of.

Do you become paralyzed by the challenges you face on a daily basis? Financial challenges? Relationship challenges? Challenges with your kids? Your health? If you do, you are not alone. There are so many challenges that affect us on a daily basis, it’s amazing that we get out of bed in morning!

How can we take on life's challenges and keep the big picture of life in mind so as not to get bogged down by the small stuff?

One of my childhood heroes, Michael Jordan, says, “Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.”

Michale Jordan was able to find his way through life’s challenges and become one of the most successful basketball players of all times. Do you also have it in you to accept life’s challenges?

As a life coach, I work with people on a daily basis, helping them through the ups and downs in their lives. Giving them exercises, working on mantras, and providing accountability to reach their goals.

And when a challenge hits a life coach, sometimes it can be very difficult to continue to be that rock for the ones you are coaching.

Recently, I went through a Paternity Court Case with my ex (my daughter’s father), which proved to be a very tumultuous challenge. It took 6 months to establish a Parenting Plan and Child Support that works for the both of us. Now that I have been through this process, I don’t wish it on anyone. However, I have come out the other side stronger, with more clarity, and with tools that I can use to help others that are going through something similar.

If you are going through a challenging time yourself, here are some things that you can do to keep yourself on track so you can get through the challenging times and still be able to continue with your daily life’s activities:

  1. Stay focused. Write down your goals and keep your eye on the finish line. You will get through it. It just takes time.
  2. Research. How have others gotten through this situation? What are the obstacles you are contending with? Research all of your options, so you have a handle on what the best options are for you.
  3. Support System. You will need a strong support system through your challenging time. Have someone you can vent to (that is removed from the situation), someone whose shoulder you can cry on if needed, and someone that can lift you up.
  4. Self Care. It’s so important to still take time for you during a challenging situation. What are doing to eat healthy, exercise, and take time out to enjoy the things you love? You will need space for self care and self reflection. Don’t be too hard on yourself and continue to fill up your cup first.
  5. Communicate. Let people know you are going through a challenging time. That way expectations aren’t as high during this time period. People will understand if you explain to them what is going on.

Are you going through a challenging time yourself and want to work with a life coach to help transform, empower, and create positive change in your life? I’d love to hear from you. Set up a session and let’s connect!

Have a beautiful day!
