What is eCounseling?

Online counseling, also known as e-therapy or teletherapy, is a new development in mental health treatment where a counselor provides support and advice online.

Why should I do eCounseling?

eCounseling is more affordable and convenient than face-to-face counseling. Traditional counseling can cost upwards of $180 per session. ChatOwl's services start at $39 per week. Unlike other forms of counseling, eCounseling makes it easy to switch to another counselor at any time.

What is ChatOwl?

We offer affordable, convenient and effective eCounseling for all. Get the help and support you need anytime, anywhere and from any device with ChatOwl. ChatOwl counselors are independent providers and are not employed by ChatOwl. Our role is to connect you with the right provider to help you achieve your goals.

How do I get started with ChatOwl?

Click on "Get Started" and take a brief survey to help us match you with a counselor that best fits your needs. At the end of the survey, you'll choose one of the counselors that we've matched you with. Click "Book Now", register, schedule your session and start feeling happier. You can switch to another counselor at any time.

How much does ChatOwl cost?

Our mission is to make help available and affordable for all because the drive to feel better, to feel happier is universally human regardless of socioeconomic status. You can sign up for single sessions or subscribe for discounted session rates. You are not obligated to subscribe. If you do subscribe, you may cancel at any time. On ChatOwl, you set the fee range you're comfortable with, starting at $39 per week, and we'll match you with counselors you can afford.

Is ChatOwl a replacement for face-to-face counseling?

ChatOwl can replace face-to-face therapy for many people but there are exceptions.

ChatOwl is not the right solution if any of the following apply to you...
  • You are thinking of harming yourself or others
  • You are under 18 years of age
  • You need immediate help
  • You don't have a reliable internet connection
  • You have been diagnosed with a significant mental illness
  • You require court ordered psychological treatment

Who are the counselors?

Our counselors are independent providers and come from various backgrounds and disciplines including licensed clinical therapists, peer counselors and coaches. You are matched with counselors based on your needs and their experience.

Who will be helping me?

After you complete a brief survey, we will match you to a counselor who fits your goals and preferences. It's important to find the right person with the right style and experience to help you achieve the best results. You can request additional counselor matches or switch to a different counselor at any time.

How will I communicate with my counselor?

You can select either voice or video conferencing to communicate with your counselor when you sign up for individual eCounseling or couples eCounseling. When you sign-up for unlimited text eCounseling, you will communicate with your counselor through messaging and your counselor will respond up to two times per day.

How is my privacy protected?

Protecting your privacy and ensuring the information you provide is secure is of utmost importance to us. We don't work with outside parties so your information is never shared. The ChatOwl platform employs the latest best practices for online security and encryption.

How do I communicate with my counselor?

You can get eCounseling in three ways, video, voice or messaging. Choose the best way to connect with your counselor based on your preferences, needs, availability, and convenience.

How do live chat sessions work?

After you schedule your session, you'll be provided with instructions for connecting with your counselor through Zoom, a secure voice and video communication service which makes it easy to start a conversation. Our communication service is as easy to use as Skype or FaceTime.

Do I have to use video to communicate with my counselor?

No. You have the option of using audio only and have the option of switching to video at anytime.

How does couples eCounseling work?

Couples eCounseling works the same as an individual session except there are two of you speaking with a counselor. You must be on the same device as your partner. We do not offer three way connections at this time.

Do you take insurance?

No. We do not take insurance because many health insurance plans only offer partial or limited coverage. In fact, your co-pay would most likely be more than the cost of our services. The mission of ChatOwl is to make eCounseling available and feasible for all. You can get support from a counselor for as little as $39 per week.

How do I pay for my ChatOwl session or subscription plan?

You will be asked to enter your payment information when you book your first session. Subsequent sessions are billed at the selected frequency weekly, bi-weekly, monthly. You can cancel your subscription plan at any time.

How do I retrieve my login or password?

Click on "Login" on top right. In the dialog, click "Reset my Password", enter your email and follow the instructions.
